Job Responsibilities:
RELATIONSHIP
- Supervises and directs all Housekeeping & Laundry personnel.
- Interacts with guests as well as individuals outside the hotel, such as suppliers, contractions, labor relations representatives and competitors.
- Cooperates, coordinates and communicates closely with Front Office, and with other department heads as required.
ROOM AND PUBLIC AREA SECTIONS
- Supervises the floor supervisors, public area supervisors to ensure maximum guest satisfaction.
- Sets and reviews standard and ensure that they, through effective training, are communicated to all housekeeping staff.
- Monitors housekeeping department to ensure that guest receive prompt and courteous service.
- Informs other departments of housekeeping matters that concern them, particularly the Engineering Department, Front Office Department and Food & Beverage Department. Maintains open channels of communication with other department heads and the General Manager.
- Establishes and maintains effective human relations.
- Performs personnel related functions such as hiring, performance appraisal, suspending and terminating personnel. Consults with the Human Resources Manager or General Manager on personnel matters.
- Identifies training needs and develops and implements training programs.
- Schedules routine inspections of all housekeeping area by the supervisors.
- Inspects guest and public area on an regular basis to ensure that the furnishings, facilities and equipment are clean and in good repair.
- Identifies and ensure highest possible standard of cleanliness, maintenance, guests room supplies and amenities at a realistic cost.
- Make recommendations to the Room Division Manager and/or General Manager regarding the upkeep of furnishings, facilities and equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good repair.
- Maintains appropriate standards for dress,hygiene, uniforms, appearance, posture and conduct of Housekeeping staff.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings.
- Ensure that housekeeping personnel are familiar with in-house facilities for the purpose of assisting guest.
- Controls and analyzes departmental costs on anon-going basis to ensure performance against budget.
- Participates in the preparation of the hotel’s strategic plan and goals.
- Prepares the housekeeping departmental budget.
- Monitors and controls inventories for operating equipment, lien and uniforms to ensure the control and maintenance of par stocks and costs.
- Implements and controls housekeeping procedures that provide for the health and safety of personnel and guests, such as lost and found service, key control and security and emergency procedures.
LAUNDRY SECTION
- Supervises Asst. Laundry Manager, Guest Laundry and Dry Cleaning, to ensure that the highest possible hygiene and finish standard of hotel linen is maintained at all times.
- Inspects Guest Laundry, Dry Cleaning and Press work on a daily basis, to ensure optimum quality of work, prompt pick-up and on-time delivery of garments.
- Coordinates with Food & Beverage Manager to ensure that there is an adequate supply of linen and uniforms available at all times, in particular on weekend/holidays, when laundry is closed.
- Monitors control of wash formulas and use of washroom chemicals in order to maintain whiteness brightness of linen and to ensure linen is returned to user departments free of stains and unpleasant odors.
- Maintains records of wash rejects and in case of excessive rejects rates, improve wash formulas accordingly.
- Process a laundry test at least twice a year to monitor mechanical/chemical damage factors as well as tensile strength loss of linen owned by the Hotel.
- Reviews the laundry’s environmental performance and achievements twice a year.
- Develops and implements standard operating procedures, as well as production and quality standards.
- Checks constantly all laundry and dry cleaning equipment, to ensure that machines are kept clean, properly maintained and inefficient operating condition.
- Prepares maintenance requisitions and maintains a follow-up file to ensure that equipment does not fall into disrepair.
- Schedules working times in a way to optimize production, utilization of equipment as well as utilization of water and energy.
- Proposes/ implements in coordination with the Chief Engineer, possible energy savings in the laundry.
- Assists Purchasing in analysis and selection of new linens and uniforms.
- Controls and analysis, on an ongoing basis, departmental labor and material costs, to ensure performance against budget.
- Prepares the laundry department budget and goals program.
- Prepares a monthly laundry production summary report.
- Establishes and updates a 5-year plan, including necessary replacements/ additions of equipment.
- Conducts such functions as interviewing, hiring,performance appraisal, counseling and dismissal if necessary, to ensure appropriate staffing and productivity. Consults with Room Division Manager and/or General Manager or delegate and Human Resources Manager, as appropriate,in performing these duties.
- Establishes and maintains effective employee relations.
- Identifies training needs, develops formal training plans and carries out regular training sessions.
- On an annual basis, review prices for guest Laundry/ Dry Cleaning/ Pressing to ensure they are competitive with those of key hotel competitors.
- Keeps aware of trends, new methods, chemicals,textiles and equipment in the laundry and dry cleaning industry , through trade magazines and by visiting other laundry and dry cleaning plants.
- Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- A person with good leadership and management concepts.
- An Experienced person in the same position for at least three years.
- Strong knowledge and skills in washing chemicals and how to apply.
- Strong administration skills and inventory.
- Ability to conduct training for his/her subordinates for housekeeping skills.
- Good command of English in both verbal and writing.
- A open-minded person and adaptable to the principles.
- Concept of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Willing to work under pressure.
